NNPS School-Based Schools

No topic in education generates greater agreement than the need for positive parental involvement. Everyone wants it, but most educators need help in developing productive programs that involve family and community partners in ways that boost student success in school. That is why the North Dakota State PIRC, along with the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and several schools in North Dakota, have collaborated with the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at John Hopkins University.

Twenty-three (23) schools have joined NNPS through this partnership. Under this plan, these schools will receive PIRC school-based services. All twenty-three schools have completed their 2008-2009 action plans, which included the following three goals: academic goals, behavioral goals, and parent/school/community goals. Each school has received $10,000 from the ND State PIRC to: 1) set up a Parent Resource Room with a computer and resource materials in their school that will be made available to parents, and 2) fund parent activities to help meet the needs of their action plans.

The following is a list of schools that are a part of this collaboration:

According to NNPS, research shows that school, family, and community partnerships must be understood as an essential component of district leadership and school and classroom organization. Well-implemented, goal-oriented programs and practices of family and community involvement can help increase student learning and development. It takes time, organization, and effort to develop excellent programs. NNPS helps preschools, elementary, middle, and high schools organize research-based and goal-oriented programs of school, family, and community partnerships. NNPS also guides district and state leaders to encourage and guide every school to create a welcoming climate of partnership and to implement involvement activities linked to school goals for student success.
